Queensland’s beautiful Gold Coast played host to this year’s 2019 Australian and New Zealand National Titles. Held at the ‘super sized’ Coomera sports centre we welcomed over 500 competitors, officials, instructors and spectators from all corners of Australasia.
The day started with an opening ceremony of champions, as state by state competitors poured into the arena. As the energy and excitement grew, so did the smiles. This day wasn’t just about winning – karate is more than that. This day was about friends, determination, overcoming obstacles and giving it your all.
As cheers and ‘kiais’ filled the air, the events rolled on. Teams, individuals, kids, juniors, adults – whatever the division there was plenty to keep spectators and coaches on the edge of their seat.
Finishing around 4pm it was finally time to call ‘yame’. Although many took home medals, I’m certain the memories and experiences will be what lasts. Congratulations to all who competed, supported, judged and cheered – you made the 2019 National Titles one to remember!
